How to make a word search

  1. Give it a title. It prints at the top of the page.
  2. Type your words, one per line or with commas between them. Spaces and punctuation are dropped in the grid, so "ice cream" hides as ICECREAM.
  3. Pick a difficulty. Easy hides words across and down, medium adds diagonals, and hard hides them in any direction, backwards included.
  4. Press Make puzzle. Don't like the layout? Shuffle letters gives you a new grid with the same words.
  5. Print it, play it on screen, or copy the share link so someone else gets the same puzzle.

Tips for a good puzzle

Twelve to twenty words is about right for one page. Fit my words picks the smallest grid that holds them, and you can choose a bigger one if you want more filler letters to search through.

Mix short and long words. A list of only long words makes a big grid, and a list of only three-letter words is over too fast.

Personal words make the best puzzles: names at a family reunion, inside jokes for a birthday, the couple's favorite places for a bridal shower, or old street names and songs for a parent who loves puzzles. Turn on Large print before printing for anyone who prefers bigger letters.
